Everyone at DHFA is here to make you feel like you're welcome and you belong. Our instructing methodology is meant to keep you challenged while always feeling like you're making progress.

  Jason Barrons - Head Instructor    LOVES:  Renaissance Longsword, Sword and Buckler, Single Stick, cutting with sharps, playing with scissors, training new fencers.  Jason is also the president of  The HEMA Alliance , and editor-in-chief of  Measure and Weigh , a HEMA product review website.   Jason has won Gold at Study in Steel 2018,  Silver in both the open steel longsword and team event at PHO 2017, as well as bronze in the 100 fencer tier b steel longsword tournament at Longpoint 2017. He is currently ranked 40th in the USA & 107th in the world for Longsword, and ranked as high as 80th in Sword and Buckler.

  Aaron Karnuta - Head Instructor    LOVES:  German & Italian Longsword, Sword and Buckler, Rapier & Dagger, single handed weapons, sugar.  Aaron spearheads DHFA's advanced classes, and brings to them a deep knowledge of the old sources and manuscripts.  Aaron recently won gold in longsword at the cornhusker games,  silver in the messer tournament at Longpoint 2017, and gold in the open steel longsword at RMK 2017. He is ranked in the top 20 in the US, as well as 80th in the world in longsword. Previously he had placed 4th at Socal Swordfight 2015, and top 16 at Longpoint 2016.

The resident left handed instructor, Sam is an expert at helping you discover what openings are exposed and you don't realize it.  Recently Sam came  in 3rd in single rapier at RMK2017, Silver in the basic cutting tournament at Longpoint, and is ranked 69th in the world for rapier and dagger.

The resident left handed instructor, Sam is an expert at helping you discover what openings are exposed and you don't realize it.

Recently Sam came  in 3rd in single rapier at RMK2017, Silver in the basic cutting tournament at Longpoint, and is ranked 69th in the world for rapier and dagger.

  Meghan O-Connel    LOVES:  Medieval German Longsword, introducing folks to fencing, snazzy sparring socks, the utility of panniers.  Meghan comes to Denver from New York City, where she trained at the renowned NYHFA school with some of the best instructors and fencers in the world. She brings an excellent knowledge of early german longsword, and how to whoop the ass of anyone of any size. Meghan is ranked 68th in the world in women's longsword.

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTORS

  Connor Chamberlain - Assistant Instructor    Loves:  Saber, Rapier, Longsword, Greatswords, whatever weapon he may or may not be holding.  Connor has won bronze in both Longsword and Rapier/Dagger at the Cornhusker State Games 2018 and is the resident Sabreur at DHFA.  Connor mostly specializes in Napoleonic British Military Saber, but is working on his knowledge of as many military saber systems as he can get his hands on. Though he is still rather new to HEMA, Connor is dedicated to helping the community grow as a whole with his teaching.

Hates:  codpieces and farming sickle/scythe. Like, why man?  After only training for the better part of a year, Gryphon managed to come away with silver in longsword, 4th in singlestick, and 8th in rapier at the 2018 Cornhuskers State Games.
